Green's Function Computation General Discussion
This section of the website is designed for wiki-style discussion between SIV participants. To make changes and add comments, once you are logged in, click "edit" in the "This Page" pane to the left.
This space can be used to discover the reasons for differences between different modelers' results & to help the modelers converge to the correct solution. Discussions tailored to specific codes can take place on the discussion pages for each code, which are linked to at the bottom of this page.
Point-Source Green's function test
Problem Description available here: Downloads
Powerpoint of test results: SIV_GreensFctTest.ppt
- Raw data files of original submissions:
- Revised submissions:
Possible reasons for differences:
- different interpretation of "point source" (problem is actually a rectangle of slip) -- how well should this be descretized to reach target frequency?
- unit problems
- near-nodal stations
- non-convergence of wavenumber summations
- boundary reflections
- misunderstandings of code setup / code output
Extended-fault forward modeling test
Problem Description available here: Downloads
Presentation with first two submissions: SIVNewStuffSCEC2010.ppt
- Raw data files of original submissions:
- Revised submissions:
Possible reasons for differences:
- we still have point-source GF problems; these must be ironed out first
- what is sufficient descretization in space/time/wavenumber
